About

Severance is a roleplay schema based off of Left 4 Dead. It is a survival gamemode based off of a zombie Apocalypse with roleplay elements, although the game is not centered around deathmatch. It has some good roleplay aspects similar to other roleplay gamemodes like Tacoscript, Cider or DarkRP. The main difference is that Severance is more action themed than the other roleplay gamemodes.

The unique aspect of Severance is that an administrator or even a player can decide what happens. A player can take the role of the director, the director distributes items around the map, spawns zombies, and creates stories and events.

Severance is one of the more 'rare' and unique gamemodes, it is sold on the internet for $150, but some people own the 'leaked' version of the gamemode which is free. If you search well on the internet you might even find it. That is the main reason why only a few servers host this gamemode and only a few people own it. (At the moment of writing a total of 3 servers have Severance)

Gameplay

Gameplay tends to revolve around the use of improvised items and weapons scattered around the map, usually by an administrator with the 'distribution' flag. The administrator that distributes items and weapons is also known as the director. The director flies through the map in no-clip mode and hides weapons and items. His job is also to spawn infected and make special events.

Players are usually filtered into the default class of 'survivor', whereas more experianced players may be whitelisted to the C.E.D.A. group for a greater variety of equipment. Weapons in the game range from powerful rifles, such as the Kalashnikov AK-47, to melee weapons, such as a metal shovel.

In the original Severance the main objective is to fight off the running infected, just like the movies '28 Days Later' and '28 Weeks Later' and the video game Left 4 Dead. But in the more custom and modified version of Severance there is a bigger variety. Different infected like the original walking zombies but also special infected, an administrator can take the role as a special infected to make the gameplay more exciting.

Custom versions of Severance also feature cars, air vehicles, and experimental vehicles like a mech-warrior.

Download and Running

Severance is a rare gamemode, there is no official download link. You will also need a working version of Nexus, which just like Severance has no official download link. Because of this to have Severance on your server you have to do the maintenance yourself and make your own updates to keep it working with the latest version of Garry's Mod.

Getting a Severance server running isn't easy either, because of outdated modules, lack of updates and broken LUA codes there is a lot of work to do before you can get a Severance server running. But when you have it running it's worth all the work!

Blueprint

One of the options is to run Severance on Blueprint instead of Nexus. Blueprint is more commonly used and has more features. Changing Severance to blueprint takes some time though, because all of the scripts have to be converted to Blueprint.

Novus Two

Novus Two is a gamemode that was born with Severance, instead of infected controlled by the computer (NPCs) every single character is controlled by a player, while Severance has only the survivors being controlled by players. Novus Two is typically used for serious roleplay servers.

Notes

InfusionGaming's Fallout roleplay server uses a heavily modified gamemode that is based on Novus Two.
